Sangre de Cristo
January 04, 2011
The Blood of Christ. Sangre de Cristo. An unusual name for a range of mountains in any part of the world. But if you happen to be in Santa Fe, or Espanola, or Taos, or up Colorado-way in the altiplano of the San Luis Valley at sunset, on a clear winter dusk, you’ll know exactly why the mountains got their name.
One of the great joys of Santa Fe is the magnificent interplay of sunrise and sunset with the mountains that surround us. Long winter nights mean you’re likely to see the sunrise over the eastern mountains, and there’s little chance you’ll miss the sunset any time of the year.
There’s an old quip that Santa Feans take half their salary in sunsets, and if you come out to visit us, summer or winter, you’ll find out why. So come join us. We’ll let you have your views for free!
