It’s a Margarita Showdown! Can you beat our Charlie’s recipe for his Margrarita Especial? The Inn on the Alameda invites all mixology masters to come up with a margarita that our guests can’t resist.
Every two weeks through October 2010, we will introduce someone's new margarita recipe in our Agoyo Room Lounge and invite our guests to vote on their favorites. On October 31st, we will award the winning margarita master a two-night stay in one of our Suites with a Fireplace for two...it's that simple!
All margarita recipes must use easy-to-obtain ingredients (no prickly pear juice or 100-year-old anejos, please) and must be on the rocks, not frozen. Entries can be submitted to alamedapr@cybermesa.com; and all recipes will be posted here on our site.
We welcome you to show your skill behind the bar and win a relaxing stay in Santa Fe, where you can sample your own margarita at the Inn! May the best mixer reign supreme!
The challenge continues with our third entry from Ray in Longmont, CO with his Rayarita Special!
Our second entry comes from up in Ranchos de Taos, thanks to Jamie, who calls it The Sunset Bloom!
1.5 oz. Herradurra Silver or Patron Silver Tequila
2 oz. Patron Citronge or other orange Liqueur
Splash + of Fresh Lime Juice
Splash of Orange Juice
Splash of Cranberry Juice
Mix all ingredients in a martini shaker until frothy, and pour into margarita glass over rocks. Rim glass with rock salt, sugar or both! Serve with a wedge of lime. If your bar closet is broad, Jamie says it's a nice touch to add .5 oz St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur and reduce the orange liqueur to 1.5 oz.
Our first entry comes from Colleen in Florida; we've named it the Sorority Sister, since she always uses her sorority shot glass, which is slightly larger than standard. And she says after two of these powerful concoctions, you should designate a driver or confiscate the keys!
This recipes makes two margaritas, one for you and a friend:
2 shots of Tequila
1 and 1/2 shots of Grand Marnier (or Grandma, as Colleen so sweetly calls it)
2 shots fresh-squeezed lime juice
2-3 packets of sugar or artificial sweetener, as you prefer
I
ce and a martini or cocktail shaker
Add all ingredients into a martini shaker (Colleen says it works even better if you play "The Coconut Song, by Harry Nilsson!). Shake, pour into two martini glasses over ice and start sipping!
